Interest in Joining our Board?

Hello Rural VT community!

We’re looking for folks who might make good additions to Rural Vermont’s Board in the near and long-term. Might you or someone you know be a good fit? We accept suggestions and nominations on a rolling basis.

Our Board is made up of people who share Rural Vermont’s commitment to co-creating equitable, inclusive, and just agrarian communities.

RV Board members play critical leadership roles, and ensure the work of the organization is fulfilling our mission and moving us toward our vision. We strive to be an ally to marginalized and disenfranchised groups and would greatly value having more people with these experiences represented on our Board. See our Statement of Solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives. Our full Board and staff commit to adhering to Rural Vermont’s Anti-Racism Policy.

Board and staff enjoy getting to connect and learn together as whole humans; at the same time, Board members can choose what parts of themselves to bring to their position. For example, a farmer Board member who manages their farm’s financials might choose to bring their agricultural experience to Rural Vermont’s policy work, and not particularly engage with the organization’s fiscal management. For more information about what serving on the Board entails, see our Board Member Agreement.

Serving on our Board is currently an uncompensated volunteer position, though we are exploring compensation in the future.

Our process is that current RV Board members and staff will evaluate applications and reach out to nominees with questions, more information, and/or to begin to understand whether it would be a mutual good fit. Invitations are extended annually, and final approval is granted by vote of the membership at Rural Vermont’s Annual Meeting (usually sometime in the last quarter of the year).

Curious about our current Board of Directors? Meet them here.

Thanks for your interest!
